Two local surfers have been praised for rescuing a swimmer who was swept out by a powerful rip current near South Bondi.

The incident occurred just after 3 p.m. on Saturday. Witnesses say the swimmer appeared to be struggling when surfers Zoe Martin and Liam Hall paddled over and pulled him onto a board.

“We were just doing what anyone would do,” said Martin. The swimmer was treated on shore and did not require hospitalisation.
